It's a challenge for Australia to set fresh records.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

This is the team that has won seven Cricket World Cups, plus another six T20 titles, and earlier maintained 1,294 days unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, those for the peak baggers, are the only things left for a squad that has achieved everything.

That it took as late as Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase above 300, reclaiming their record for the highest in the female 50-over format, is, frankly, a compliment to the bowling attack that have represented Australia over the last half-century.

It's difficult for their batsmen to possess a record if not provided the chance.

Ultimately, the outcome of Australia giving up 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy being given a platform to deliver her latest masterpiece.

Then best known as the teenage relative of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her nation couldn't capture either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups conducted earlier and has witnessed all through 15 successful years since.

A T20 championship victory came three months after her debut and seven world titles have followed from 10 attempts across formats.

The tough gloveman was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India briefly halted the run of success.

That loss "drove us to reevaluate our levels," Healy said this week.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the title decider and was declared player of the series. She ensured her country would not fail again.

The question of whether this recent magnificent innings topped that previous effort can be debated.

Some will argue the reasoning behind the pressure of a final. Different voices suggest with the test that comes when confronting a historic chase and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's definite is this hundred was far harder to anticipate.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 came as she led the batting statistics, but this performance came after six matches in India since the start of last month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've been watching me in training, it has been a challenging time because it appeared I lacked timing completely," commented Healy.

"Yet the moment you step out on the field, your competitive nature activate and you just lock into the contest."

Healy's competitiveness has always been her great strength - and a priceless quality in replacing legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, out to the young fast bowler in all three matches, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's spark.

One run resulted off the opening delivery and from there the right-hander was in motion.

"A chance to play and face the challenge with her and simply enjoy myself that way, sort of got me going," commented Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 deliveries - her swiftest at the World Cup - and her hundred in 84 balls as she attacked short-pitched balls, hitting 21 fours and three sixes.

When she was removed her side needed 66 additional runs at run per delivery - an achievable target now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Pursuing 330 is new territory so I'm pleased we have the belief to do that now," continued Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it again but, if we do, we are confident we can succeed."

Those words will be the final thing competing nations at this tournament should hear.

During the last week a feeling they will win from any position has become more firm - this victory coming after victory over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite being 76-7 at one point.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before an encounter with longtime competitors England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a last-four spot may likely be confirmed.

It was at that stage they were eliminated from last year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a game Healy missed because of torn tissue in her foot as she led her country for the initial instance at a major tournament.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she regretted not playing through the pain.

But while she afterwards confessed those physical issues have postponed consideration of ending her career, this tournament is likely to be her last as captain in 50-over cricket and she is hasn't yet secured a world championship as leader.

Triumph in India would lead her to the peak of her ultimate challenge.
